A Letter from the Producing Director

Hello Friends,

It is my pleasure to introduce [By The Mummers], an ensemble of theatrical artists striving to enhance the audience experience by any means necessary. Our First Show [By The Mummers] (official title to be announced imminently) will commence November 3, 2009 at the National Comedy Theatre in Manhattan.

Since my youth, I have been fascinated with strong ensemble productions that pull back a curtain & grant “behind the scenes” access to an audience. On television, you can trace the lineage from ‘The Muppet Show’ to the Aaron Sorkin Television Trilogy to the Canadian classic, ‘Slings & Arrows’. On stage, you can draw a line from the Shakespearean Play within a Play to audience favorites ‘Kiss Me Kate’ & ‘Noises Off’. These productions feature characters embraced by audiences “behind the scenes”, prompting you to love them all the more when they get “onstage”. [By The Mummers] hopes to take this concept and turn it on its ear.

So, why [By The Mummers] and not ‘The Mummers’? --- [By The Mummers] is our personal tag, enabling us to produce anything from Christmas [By The Mummers] to Oedipus [By The Mummers] to Baseball [By The Mummers]. The possibilities are endless.

Between now and November 3, we invite you to ByTheMummers.com to check out the progress of our first show. There you shall fine Video & Written Blogs by Our Company, Actor Bios, and pertinent Show Information.

Sincerely,

Frank Cardillo

Strictly speaking, a mummer is an actor in a traditional seasonal folk play. The term is also humorously (or derogatorily) applied to any actor.
